Will Howard led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a famous win over the Tennessee Volunteers in round one of the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes defeated the Volunteers 42-17 and moved to the next stage in this year's postseason.
Howard made a "Game of Thrones" inspired post on Instagram after the game:
"When people ask you what happened here, tell them the North remembers. Tell them Winter came for the Volunteers. See y’all in Pasadena. Philippians 4:6-7."
How did Will Howard perform against the Tennessee Volunteers?
Will Howard was in excellent form during the game against Tennessee. The senior-year quarterback amassed a stat line of 311 passing yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the blowout victory. He also added five carries and 37 rushing yards for good measure.
The Buckeyes were dominant against the Volunteers, and the game was never close. Star freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith opened his postseason account with two touchdowns, and he'll look to add to his account in subsequent games.
Three players were catalysts for Ohio State's victory: Howard, who recorded his second game with more than 300 yards for the season, Smith, who amassed over 100 receiving yards and running back TreVeyon Henderson, who racked up 10 carries, 80 rushing yards and two rushing TDs. The trio will aim for more of the same in the second round.
What's next for Will Howard and the Buckeyes?
Will Howard will lead the Ohio State Buckeyes when they face off against the unbeaten No. 1 Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day. The Buckeyes will aim for revenge after they handed them their first loss of the season.
Buckeyes fans will hope that Howard and Co. can pull off an upset against a much fancied Oregon Ducks side.
