The Wisconsin Badgers go on the road to play the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, October 19 at noon ET. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network.
Wisconsin (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) is coming off a 42-7 rout against Rutgers. Northwestern (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) is coming off a 37-10 upset road win over Maryland.
Wisconsin vs Northwestern: Preview
Wisconsin is a seven-point favorite to defeat Northwestern, while the over/under is set at 41 points.
The Badgers have had an up-and-down season but have won back-to-back games.
Wisconsin blew out Rutgers in a game that quarterback Braedyn Locke threw for 240 yards, a touchdown and a pick while running back Tawee Walker rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns.
Walker has been the focal point of Wisconsin's offense and Northwestern coach David Braun says the offense is tough to stop.
“What you’re seeing out of Wisconsin these last two weeks is they get up in a football game, they remain incredibly balanced — and with that balance — (the team) becomes really difficult to defend,” Braun said, via DailyNorthwestern.
Defensively, the Badgers are led by Preston Zachman, who has two interceptions, and Jaheim Thomas leads the way with 36 tackles.
Northwestern, meanwhile, is coming off an upset win over Maryland on the road. The Wildcats rushed for three touchdowns while the team recorded an interception to cement the win.
Last season, Northwestern beat Wisconsin and Badgers coach Luke Fickell says he's looking for revenge in this game but admits Northwestern has a great roster.
“It’s a really solid football team,” Fickell said, via WMV15news. “I think they do the things they do really well. You know, they’re physical, they, they, they play well up front. I thought last year they they controlled the line of scrimmage and particularly better than any other game that we played last year.
"When I say they controlled the line of scrimmage, that’s probably me not wanting to say that they dominated us up front on both sides of the ball. But in a lot of ways, they dominated us up up front on both sides of the ball and a lot of other areas.”
The Wildcats defense has five interceptions and 15 sacks. However, Northwestern will have their hands full against Wisconsin's offense, which has had success this season, especially running the ball.
Wisconsin is coming off a solid win over Rutgers and the Badgers should be able to get a win here.
Although Northwestern looked good against Maryland on the road, the Badgers defense is much better and should be able to limit the Wildcats offense.
Prediction: Wisconsin 27, Northwestern 17
