The Texas Longhorns were unable to advance to the national championship game after losing 28-14 to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl during the College Football Playoff. There were multiple factors contributing to their defeat, but many have pointed to quarterback issues, as Quinn Ewers struggled to put points on the board.

One significant issue was the Longhorns' inability to score touchdowns in the red zone. This included a crucial strip-sack and scoop-and-score by Ohio State late in the fourth quarter.

People took to social media to blame quarterback Quinn Ewers and coach Steve Sarkisian for the loss.

"Instead of putting Arch Manning in the game on 1st and goal at the 1 and guaranteeing a score, Steve Sarkisian chose to have the worst play callling series I have ever seen in my life. That 2nd and goal call will live in infamy with #HookEm fans," one commenter replied
"Steve Sarkisian embarrassed himself so much at the goal line, the Chicago Bears have decided to interview him tomorrow for Head Coach." One fan jokingly posted

Other fans believe that if Arch Manning was able to play more instead of Quinn Ewers, the game may have gone differently.

"I just never understood the hype over Quinn Ewers. They had their championship QB on the roster already Arch Manning," one person posted.
"Watching Quinn Ewers play over Arch Manning is like watching somebody build the perfect F1 race car and asking Tony Stewart to drive it when Mario Andretti was sitting right here," another person said.

Will Quinn Ewers return to the Texas Longhorns?

Many people did not expect Quinn Ewers to return for the 2024 college football season, anticipating that he would enter the NFL draft as the Longhorns joined the Southeastern Conference. Ewers still has another year of NCAA eligibility, but it's widely expected that he will declare for the 2025 NFL draft.

In an interview on "College GameDay" before the Cotton Bowl, Ewers told ESPN's Pete Thamel that he does not plan to return to college next year. This could be interesting, as Carson Beck's transfer to Miami after declaring for the NFL draft might boost Ewers' draft stock, allowing him to continue rising.
