Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel has consistently shown off his electric playing abilities throughout the season. He is now set to play in the Big Ten Championship Game tonight, in hopes of taking home the trophy for Dan Lanning and his team.
While Gabriel is known for his impressive skills, he's also popular for his down-to-earth personality and empathetic nature. The Oregon quarterback has made the headlines several times for giving back to the community, like helping his Hawaiian high school with uniforms.
The $2.1M NIL-valued quarterback is also famous for his humble nature, which is fairly depicted by his vehicle choice.
Contrary to what the quarterbacks of his class are driving, like Shedeur Sanders' Mercedes Maybach and Carson Beck's Lamborghini, Gabriel happily drives a minivan.
During ESPN's hype video for Gabriel ahead of the Big Ten matchup, his Oregon teammates and coach were seen commenting on the quarterback's unique car choice.
"He's not all about the flash, about substance, and it really reflects in his car choice. I think it's a direct reflection of how humble he is, there's no quarterback driving a minivan," Oregon's TE Terrance Ferguson said.
"I was like dude, you're driving a minivan? You look like somebody's uncle over here," OL Iapani Laloulu hilariously said.
"Then you find out how excited he is about this minivan that he's driving around, and he's pumped about it, being able to load up teammates to go on trips places," Coach Dan Lanning added. (1:00)
Dillon Gabriel opens up about building trust with Oregon teammates
The quarterback entered the transfer portal after playing for the Oklahoma Sooners in 2023 and joined Lanning's Oregon, and he understood that building trust is one of the keys to the team's success.
"We're all here just trying to enjoy and kind of get to know each other outside the facility."
Gabriel even organized a weekend getaway for him and his teammates in the offseason. Talking about the retreats, Lanning said:
"He invited everybody, and we spent a lot of time and a little amount of time. Some of it is football, but a lot of it's just that drive together. It's that time together. It's the meal together. Obviously that ties right back to his Hawaiian roots. Having that same connection with his family means a lot." (2:22)
The Ducks are gearing up to play against Penn State, which will be broadcast on CBS and live-streamed on Fubo and Paramount+.
