Brie Larson, who plays Tess in Fast X, revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly how she had to temper her expectations for her fight scenes in the film.
The recently released tenth installment of the Fast & Furious marks Larson's debut in the popular action-racing franchise, where she essays the role of Tess, a rogue representative and daughter of Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody, who aids Vin Diesel's Dom Torretto and team against the machinations of Jason Momoa's Dante Reyes and Charlize Theron's Cipher.
As far as the scope of Brie Larson's role in the Fast & Furious franchise after Fast X is concerned, it remains to be seen. However, she is no doubt an exciting addition to the franchise thanks to her amazing acting talent.
"I had to make an adjustment": Brie Larson compares her work in Fast X to her role as MCU's Captain Marvel
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Brie Larson revealed that she had to temper her expectations for the fight scenes in Fast X due to her having played Captain Marvel, a character with extreme powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU):
"I had to make an adjustment, because really, the only fight sequences I had done, I have extreme power as Carol. So I’m used to like, if I punch, then someone’s on a ratchet flying across. So I had to learn to temper my expectations for this one… They just go down. They don’t fly to outer space. It’s like, 'That’s weird.'"
Larson's comments on her work prompted a fun response from her co-star Charlize Theron, who reminded the Academy Award winning actress of her reaction to the stuntwork and action sequences in Fast X by saying:
"You're like, 'They're only moving that much?'"
Larson's comments about needing to temper expectations while performing her role in Fast X makes sense, given how the Vin Diesel-starring franchise of fast cars and high octane action is more grounded in look and tone, compared to the MCU, as the Fast & Furious films often make use of more practical effects, compared to the MCU's preference for CGI and green screens.
In a separate interview with Screen Slam, Brie Larson reflected on her debut in the Fast & Furious franchise through Fast X and claimed that she was "delighted" the whole time she was on set.
She then added that she had a lot of fun working on and being in a franchise she had grown up watching and loving, saying that it was a surreal experience.
