#5 Conquering Multan with first ever triple ton by an Indian batsman, 2004
Despite having had many great batsmen in their ranks, the Indians didn’ t have a single triple centurion in their rich cricketing history. However, this was all about to change on 29 March 2004 in Multan as India set foot on Pakistani soil for the first time in 15 years.
The carnage began on Day 1 of the Test itself as Virender Sehwag bludgeoned the home team’s bowlers all around the park to get to a maiden double century off just 222 deliveries. Sehwag ended the day on an unbeaten 228 and expressed his will to go for 300 in an interview after the end of play.
The ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’ lived up to his promise and became the ‘Sultan of Multan’ by slamming the first ever triple hundred by an Indian batsman. Sehwag’s score of 309 set up the match beautifully for India and they registered a victory by an innings and 52 runs, the first against Pakistan in their backyard.
