The first ever World Cup to be played in colored jerseys saw the introduction of South Africa in the Cricket World Cup. Held in Australia and New Zealand, this World Cup saw New Zealand, England, Pakistan, and South Africa qualify for the semi-finals. Defending champions and co-hosts Australia missed the bus by just a single point. Pakistan and England made it to the final two as New Zealand and South Africa bowed out of the tournament.
Imran Khan's 72 helped Pakistan score 249/6 in their 50 overs. Pringle picked up 3 wickets for England. Fairbrother's innings helped England get close to the target, however, they fell short by 22 runs in the end as Imran Khan dismissed the no.11 batsman Illingworth to help his nation win their first ever World Cup.
