The 1992 World Cup brought about a major change in the history of World Cups as compared to past. This was the first time that a World Cup was played in coloured clothes with the white ball in use under the floodlights. Before this, the situation was completely different and had become monotonous to watch and also didn’t attract viewers to a major extent.

Australia and New Zealand were given the chance to host this World Cup hence, the opening match of this event was played between them only. CJ McDermott was the bowler selected to bowl the first ball of this World Cup from the Australian side.

McDermott bowled his first over to JG Wright and RT Latham and won the match for his side by bowling a mind-boggling spell. He just gave 43 runs from 10 overs and picked 2 major wickets which changed the fate of his side in that match.
