Pakistan recorded their second consecutive win of the 2015 World Cup this Wednesday, beating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by a convincing 129-run margin. #1 Shahid Afridi becomes second player to score 8000 runs and pick up 300 wickets in ODIs

Enigmatic Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, on Wednesday, became only the second cricketer to have scored 8000 runs with the bat and picked up 300 wickets with the ball in 50-over cricket. The 35-year-old crossed the mark by hitting a six over the deep cover region during his short stay at the crease, which yielded 21 runs from 7 balls.

He now joins former Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya, who has 13430 runs and 323 wickets in 445 ODIs to his name in a career spanning 22 years.

Afridi is only the fourth Pakistan cricketer to score 8000 runs in ODIs and the 27th overall. His strike rate of 116.86 is the highest for any player who has scored in excess of 8000 runs in 50-over cricket. He is, however, the slowest to get to that mark reaching in only his 367th ODI innings.

He now also holds the record for bowling in more innings than any other player in the history of ODI cricket – 369, going past Jayasuriya again.

#2 Most International matches for Pakistan

The game against the UAE on Wednesday was Afridis 499thInternational match for his country, equalling Pakistans record for the most International matches played by any player, which is held by batting great Inzamam Ul-Haq.

The 35-year-old all-rounder has played 395 ODIs for his country since making his debut in 1996 and also has featured in 27 Tests and 77 T20 internationals. Inzamam played 378 ODIs, 120 Tests and 1 T20I for his country between 1991 and 2007.

The victory on Wednesday was also the 216thone Afridi was a part of: anew record for the most wins by a Pakistani player in ODIs, eclipsing Inzamams tally of 215 wins.

#3 Second highest total in ODIs for Pakistan without individual hundreds

Pakistan total of 339 for 6 on Wednesday is their second highest score in ODI cricket without any of their batsmen reaching the three-figure mark. The highest scorer for the Men in Green was Ahmed Shahzad who scored a 105-ball 93.

Pakistans total of 347 for 5 against Zimbabwein Karachi in 2008 is still their highest score without a batsman scoring a century. Younis Khan was the top-scorer in that game with a 68-ball 79.

#4 40+ skippers for the first time in ODIs

This was the first game in the history of ODI cricket that featured 40+ aged captains from both sides. Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq turned 40 in May last year, while his counterpart Mohammad Tauqir celebrated his 43rd birthday earlier this year.

Misbah has played 158 ODIs for Pakistan, captaining 84 for those games, since making his debut in 2002. The ongoing 2015 World Cup will be his last 50-over tournament for his country and he would be hoping to end his career in the limited-overs format on a high. He has also featured in 53 Tests for his country, leading them in 34 of those matches.

Tauqir, on the other hand, has played just 8 ODIs for his country, leading in 4 of those.

UAE’s Shaiman Anwar is now the leading run-getter in the current edition of the World Cup The 35-year-old surpassed Kumar Sangakkara's tally of 268 runs during his innings of 62 runs in 88 balls. He now has 270 runs to his name in 4 matches at an average of 67.50 with one hundred and 2 fifties and is certainly a class apart from the rest of the UAE batsmen.
