Mumbai Indians (MI) will be up against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) later tonight in IPL 2024. It is the final league game for both franchises in this year's IPL. Both teams have disappointed their fans a lot this season.
Speaking of Mumbai first, they own the 10th position in the IPL 2024 points table right now with only eight points to show from 13 matches. If MI lose tonight, they will end the season in the 10th position.
On the other side, LSG are likely to miss out on the IPL playoffs for the first time in their history. Despite having some of the world's best players in their squad, the Lucknow-based franchise have managed only six wins from 13 matches. Even if they win by a big margin tonight, they might finish outside the top 4.
Nevertheless, it should be an exciting contest between MI and LSG, two teams who competed in the Eliminator of IPL 2023. Overall, LSG have a 4-1 lead in the head-to-head record against Mumbai. Interestingly, some of Lucknow's current stars were once warming the benches at MI.
Here's a list of three players who got released by Mumbai Indians and then became stars for Lucknow Super Giants.
#1 Arshad Khan is LSG's newest star in IPL 2024
Arshad Khan announced his arrival in IPL a few nights ago at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Playing for the Lucknow Super Giants against the Delhi Capitals, Khan got rid of danger man Jake Fraser-McGurk in the first over itself.
In the second innings, when it looked like LSG would suffer an embarrassing defeat, Khan fought like a lone warrior and recorded the highest individual score by an uncapped player at number eight in IPL history. He scored 58 runs off 33 deliveries, hitting three fours and five maximums.
Khan had been with MI in 2022 and 2023. He played six matches for Mumbai in 2023, scalping five wickets and scoring 18 runs. LSG snapped him up for just ₹20 lakh at the IPL 2024 Auction.
#2 Nicholas Pooran
Current Lucknow vice-captain Nicholas Pooran has scored 782 runs in 28 innings at a strike rate of more than 170 and an average of more than 40 in his stint with the Super Giants, which began in 2023.
He was with Mumbai Indians back in 2017. While MI won the championship that season, the team did not give an opportunity to Pooran. In 2019, Pooran joined the Punjab Kings, and three years later, he moved to Sunrisers Hyderabad before earning a deal from Lucknow.
#3 Mohsin Khan
Uncapped Indian left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan was a member of the Mumbai Indians squad that won the trophy in IPL 2020. He never got an opportunity to play for MI.
At the 2022 mega auction, Lucknow signed Khan and picked him in their first-ever playing XI for the match against Gujarat Titans. The left-arm fast bowler has played 23 matches for the Super Giants thus far, scalping 26 wickets. He also won the Man of the Match award against Delhi Capitals during the 2022 season.
