Mumbai Indians have already won the IPL trophy back in 2013, 2015 and 2017. They will be looking to become the most successful franchise in the history of the tournament when they take part in IPL 2019. Currently, they are tied with Chennai Super Kings with both the teams having 3 titles under their belt.
Before going in the auction, Mumbai Indians decided to retain most of their squad from the last season as they retained the obvious likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, Kieron Pollard and many other players who have contributed in the past seasons.
They made a trade to bring Quinton de Kock from Royal Challenger Banglore and then bought the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Lasith Malinga, Barinder Sran and some more players. They also traded Jayant Yadav in from Delhi Capitals two days after the IPL auction was held in Jaipur.
We will look at 3 important players who can decide how far Mumbai Indians will go this season:
#1 Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma has led Mumbai Indians successfully so far. They have won IPL 2015 and 2017 under his leadership. He will be looking to add another trophy to his collection. Mumbai Indians are one of the favorites heading into this season. They have a very star-studded squad who will look to make the most of it by winning a record 4th title.
Rohit Sharma had a disappointing 2018 as he could not lead his team into the playoffs. He could not help with the bat too, as he was their 3rd highest run scorer and scored only 286 runs in 14 innings. It was an average season for a batsman with the quality of Rohit.
He will look to inspire and lead his team from the front as they look to chase glory again this season. If he performs at his best and shows his leadership skills, there is no team that can stop them from winning a fourth IPL title.
#2 Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya is a vital cog in this Mumbai Indians side. He has been their best all-rounder for many seasons. A player who can bowl with discipline and can finish off games with the bat is always a game changer in IPL.
He is also an excellent fielder who has taken brilliant catches for Mumbai Indians throughout his career. He made 260 runs in 13 innings for Mumbai Indians last season and was their 5th highest run scorer in 2018. He also took 18 wickets in 13 innings and was their leading wicket-taker.
He has the skills to take wickets at any given moment and can also hit long sixes to help his side post high scores at the end of 20 overs. If he can perform at the level he has been performing in the past couple of seasons, Mumbai Indians will surely make it to the playoffs and will probably win their 4th title.
#3 Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah has been the best Indian fast bowler for the past couple of years now. He is already ripping past the Australian lineups in the Test series currently going in Australia. He has always been the go-to bowler for Rohit Sharma in the past few seasons at Mumbai Indians.
He was the second highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians last season as he picked 17 wickets in 14 innings. He is frequently used as a death over specialist as he has the ability to take wickets in the final overs of the innings where most of the batsmen are looking to score boundaries off every ball.
He has got slower balls, yorkers and fast bouncers which can really unsettle the batsmen. If he can play the whole season and give his all for his team, he can really help Mumbai Indians achieve its goal of winning another IPL trophy this year.
