The Tamil Nadu batsman is a regular fixture in the Indian Test cricket team and has proved time and again why he is an important player with his valuable contributions at the top order with the bat.

Vijay is an experienced IPL campaigner having played nine IPL seasons so far. The stylish opener was instrumental in Chennai Super Kings title-winning 2010 and 2011 squads.

The Murali Vijay-Michael Hussey opening combo proved to be immensely successful for the Men in Yellow in the past.

Vijay represented the Delhi Daredevils (2014) and Kings XI Punjab (2015-2017) after he left Chennai in 2013.

He was bought by the Chennai Super Kings at his base price of Rs. 2 crore at this year's auctions, and fans expected a happy homecoming for Vijay, but it turned out to be a disaster for him.

He played just one game for Chennai in which he scored just 12 runs and was left out of the team for the other games. Ambati Rayudu's phenomenal performances has certainly dented his hopes of making the eleven this season.

In 101 IPL matches, Vijay has amassed 2523 runs at a strike-rate of 123.37, which includes 13 half-centuries and two centuries. With Vijay not at his usual best and already struggling for a spot in the eleven, he is likely to be overlooked by the Chennai Super Kings for the 2019 IPL season.
