Ajinkya Rahane has not been in the best of forms since the home season a few years ago. This meant that Rahane was dropped from the Indian Test side despite being the vice-captain of the team. Several bad performances from Rohit Sharma led to Rahane's recall into the Indian set up where he made a match-winning knock of 48 in conditions that were not suited to the batsman.

His road to redemption hit a roadblock when the team travelled to England, but he managed to retain his spot with some vital knocks. Even in the third match, Ajinkya played a helping hand in India's win.

If history is taken into consideration, Rahane was the second best batsman after Virat Kohli on the previous tour to Australia. India will once again bank on Kohli, and Rahane to steady the ship for India if they have to win the Test series.
