#1 KL Rahul

Sri Lanka v India - ICC Cricket World Cup 2019

KL Rahul was selected by the team management to start the World Cup at the no. 4 position ahead of Vijay Shankar. The move worked well as in the first few matches as Rahul looked solid, was able to rotate the strike and was confident on the crease. Unfortunately for India, Shikhar Dhawan got injured, and hence Rahul had to move up the order to open the innings in the rest of the tournament.

The selectors should look to select some young opener like Prithvi Shaw or Mayank Agarwal as the third choice opener to let Rahul remain at the no. 4 position. This decision on the part of the selectors would help the team to retain their balance throughout the tour. In 4 innings, Rahul has scored 52 runs at the no. 4 position. Hence, Rahul should be given enough opportunities to showcase his talent and capability to bat at the no. 4 spot.
