#2 Left South Africa when they needed him the most
De Villiers, as known to one and all, is the best limited overs batsman South Africa has ever produced, especially in the 50-ball format. Yet he decided to walk away from the World Cup, when it is less than a year away. If workload was too much of an issue, he could have perhaps retired from Tests alone and concentrate on only ODIs, keeping the quadrennial event in mind.
Even if his form had waned, which is not the case, he was the most experienced player in the South African team, and could have been a fine captain and mentor for many when the event came knocking.
