Australian pacer Scott Boland impressed with his exceptional performance in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. He ended as the third-highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps from just three Tests at an average of 13.19.

The 35-year-old has also played three T20Is for Australia in his career so far. He has managed to pick up just three wickets. Scott Boland has played 65 T20s, scalping 78 wickets at an average of 25.70 and an economy rate of 8.40.

The right-arm pacer has been a part of just two T20 franchise leagues - the Big Bash League (BBL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he played just two IPL matches, both coming in 2016, which was his only season in the league. Boland played for the Rising Pune Supergiant under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

His focus has not been on T20 cricket in the last few years. Hence, he did not register for the IPL 2025 auction too, as expected. Although, he may have generated some interest from a few teams had to put his name in the auction pool.

On that note, let us take a look at three IPL teams where Scott Boland would have fit in perfectly for the 2025 season.

3 teams where Scott Boland would have been a perfect fit in IPL 2025

#3 Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Punjab Kings seem to be an obvious choice for Scott Boland given the Australian connection. With Ricky Ponting as the head coach, the Kings may have shown interest in the pacer.

Punjab Kings managed to bring in Marco Jansen, Azmatullah Omarzai, Lockie Ferguson, and Xavier Bartlett as their overseas pace bowling options. However, the side has always faced middle-over bowling issues.

Someone like Boland could probably have solved their issues with bowling in the middle overs. His ability to adapt to Indian conditions and pick up wickets in the middle overs could have made him a crucial asset for the Punjab Kings. Boland's ability to bowl effectively on slower pitches could have been another added advantage.

#2 Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)

Scott Boland's experience would have made a franchise like the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) a world of good. LSG invested in their Indian pace bowling attack during the IPL 2025 auction. They have the likes of Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan.

However, their overseas pace bowling options do not look so promising. While Mitchell Marsh is present in the squad, he may not be a reliable option to bowl four overs each game. Shamar Joseph is their only other option, who is not much experienced in the format.

In such a scenario, Scott Boland would have been an ideal option for a potent overseas pacer as far as the Lucknow Super Giants are concerned.

#1 Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised many by not retaining the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan. However, they do have a decent line-up of Indian fast bowlers with the likes of Harshal Patel, Mohammad Shami and Jaydev Unadkat in their ranks.

Sunrisers Hyderabad have Pat Cummins, also their skipper, as their lead overseas pacer. However, their backups are English pacer Brydon Carse and Sri Lankan Eshan Malinga. While the two names are exciting, Scott Boland could have proven to be a better choice for the Sunrisers.

Boland, alongside the likes of Cummins and Shami, would have also been a lethal combination with the ball for Hyderabad.
