#2 Peter Kirsten by Kapil Dev
December 9, 1992, the “Friendship Series” between India and South Africa in the Rainbow Nation took an unfriendly turn when Kapil Dev ‘Mankaded’ South African batsman Peter Kirsten. South Africa returned to playing cricket at the International stage after 23 years with a series against India, however, apart from the Proteas return to cricket, this series was known for the famous incident involving Kapil Dev and Peter Kirsten.
The South African batsman later revealed that Kapil had warned him three times before in the previous matches of the series before finally taking the stumps off as Kirsten left his crease.
The incident caused a lot of controversies as mankading was not a very popular mode of taking a batsman's wickets.
Pravin Amre, who was part of the Indian eleven on that occasion, told the media later, “Peter Kirsten did it (backed up) in the previous two games as well. We had told him but he didn’t change. We actually had a team meeting about it before that game and it was decided that if he does it again we will run him out. Kapil was initially reluctant to do it but agreed that it was an unfair play on the part of the batsman.”
