It's safe to say Indian cricket team's future is in safe hands. With such a huge population and a huge number of kids playing cricket in India, there is always a healthy competition between young players for spots in the Indian cricket team.
Every other kid wants to play cricket for their nation and wants to prove their talent on the big stage. But there are certain players who get their chance at a young age to show a glimpse of their talent while playing for the nation in the under-19 tournaments.
Last year, Indian Under-19 side won the ICC Under-19 World Cup. Obviously, the whole squad contributed to the success of the team but there some standout performers who made the oppositions pay and even got the chance to play in the IPL last season.
We shall look at these 3 players who have the potential to be the superstars and play for the nation in the near future:
#1 Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw was the captain of the Under-19 side that won the World Cup in 2018. He led the side from the front and kept them motivated and hungry for success which resulted in his side lifting the ICC under-19 World Cup at the end of the tournament.
He also started the innings as an opener with the bat and made sure he didn't put the pressure on the middle order. He made a total of 261 runs in 5 innings at an average of 65.25.
He was then bought by Delhi Daredevils in the IPL auction and made an instant impact there too. He scored 245 runs in 9 innings at an excellent strike rate of 153.12.
He then made his Indian debut against West Indies in their home Test series and became the youngest player to ever score a 100 in his debut as he made 134 runs in that innings.
All in all, he looks like the future of the Indian team and is one of the most gifted players who can adapt to any situation and can score runs consistently.
#2 Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill is a middle order batsman who can play in any position from no.3 to no.7 as we have seen during his career with the Under-19 and his IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
He is a very talented batsman who played a big role in the success of the Indian Under-19 side in the World Cup last year. He led the nation in scoring as he scored 372 runs in 5 innings at an eye-catching average of 124.
He was then selected by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and made 203 runs in 11 innings. He obviously played much lower in the batting order for his IPL franchise and as a result, could not make a big contribution.
But all in all, he is still just 19 and has already played a World Cup as well as an IPL season which must have been a really positive experience for a player of his potential.
He is expected to make his debut soon for the national side and the fans will be hoping that he can impress on the big stage and carry the nation forward in the future.
#3 Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Kamlesh Nagarkoti is a right-arm fast bowler who made an instant impact in the World Cup last year. He was the leader of the Indian bowling attack last year and helped the side in getting past the oppositions batting lineups with ease.
He took 9 wickets in 6 innings in the Under-19 World Cup and was one of the standout performers for the side last year. He was also picked by IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders due to his impressive performances in the World Cup.
But he was not able to play for his franchise due to an injury he sustained before the IPL season. is franchise will be eagerly waiting to watch him perform in the IPL this year against some of the world class batsmen.
He has got the potential and the ability to perform in the big stages and it's only a matter of time till he earns his call-up to the Indian senior squad if he can keep performing at an impressive level as he has done in past.
