Sri Lanka and New Zealand battled in a T20 match on 10th January 2016 at Auckland. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to field first. Sri Lanka posted a total of 142/8 on the board after Angelo Matthews' 81 helped them recover from a collapse. Grant Elliot picked 4 wickets in the 1st innings.

When New Zealand came out to bat in the 2nd innings, Martin Guptill destroyed the Sri Lankan bowling attack as he brought up his half-century in just 17 balls and also broke the record of the fastest fifty by a New Zealand batsman. Guptill was dismissed in the 7th over which invited Colin Munro to the crease.

Munro too went berserk and shattered the Sri Lankan bowling attack by amassing 50 runs off just 14 balls, also breaking Martin Guptill's newly created record in the process. Kane Williamson was at the non-striker's end on both the occasions as the Kiwi captain witnessed the same record being created and broken in just 14 minutes.
