Klassen was handed over the wicket-keeping duty in the 3rd match of the ODI series after de Kock was ruled out of the tournament owing to an injury. Klassen showed his class in the 'Pink ODI' which was the fourth match of the series.

Klassen played a match-winning knock of 43 of 27 balls handing South Africa their first and the only win in the ODI series. In the following two ODIs he contributed 39 and 22 respectively.

He once again fired in the 2nd T20 international when he scored 69 runs off 30 balls and hit 7 huge sixes taking his team home. Klassen has successfully replaced Quinton de Kock both as a batsman and a wicket-keeper in South Africa team and has left de Kock's place in the team in danger.
