Lungi Ngidi was one of the biggest success stories of the tournament. Ngidi was handed the Test cap in the 2nd Test which was played at the Centurion. Lungi found a place in the team after Dale Steyn was injured in the 1st Test. Lungi filled in Steyn's boots beautifully taking 7 wickets on the debut. Overall he took 9 wickets in the 2 Test matches that he played.

In the ODI series, he took 8 wickets in 4 matches bowling at an economy of 6.18. Lungi's impressive performances in the Test series earned him an IPL contract too. Lungi was signed by Chennai Super Kings for Rs. 50 lakh.

Lungi also became an overnight sensation in India after he was the topic of the 'Lungi dance' jokes on the internet as his name spells same as the Indian cloth 'Lungi'.
