This was a brilliant opportunity for Dinesh Karthik to seal a spot in the Indian ODI team. Karthik has been around for a long time and has done well in patches but has struggled to maintain consistency. The Indian team management gave Karthik the opportunity to bat at number 4 in the batting order.

Even though Karthik had starts throughout the series, he failed to convert them into anything big. In the game against Afghanistan, Karthik failed to get India over the line, while in the final against Bangladesh he gave away his wicket playing an ordinary shot.
