From being a sidelined off-spinner, Thilan Samaraweera became the backbone of Sri Lanka’s middle order. Samaraweera was an efficient batsman who played 81 Tests and scored 5462 runs at an average of 48.76. He has played cricket with some greats of Sri Lanka like Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

In ODI cricket, he wasn’t as successful as he was in Tests. He played 53 ODI matches in his 12-year-old career and has scored 862 runs at an average of 27.80. Although he has scored two ODI tons and smacked 76 fours, it is pretty surprising that he has not hit barely one six.
