More depth in batting

With two of the lower order batsmen taking up the opening mantle, the other top order and middle order batsmen will come later in the innings, thus, providing more depth to the Indian batting. With Pujara, Kohli and Rahane to follow the duo and the likes of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya coming in after them, India will have an established batsman to bat with the tail. KL Rahul can be played as middle-order batsman too.
Shikhar Dhawan, on the contrary, can be sent in at number six or seven, playing a similar role to that of Australia's former wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist.
Though the idea of sending two of India's best spinners for opening the innings sounds a bit weird, it would do no harm to the team in the long run.
