5 areas of concern for Virat Kohli after the Bangladesh Test

India play their first Test against Australia on February 23rd

#3 Pace bowling combination

Umesh Yadav will most likely play for India in the absence of Mohammed Shami

Going with three seamers in the game against Bangladesh raised some eyebrows but India’s performance justified the move. However, against Australia, India will most likely go back to the three spinner formula. If this is the case, then who will face the axe?

Umesh Yadav looked settled in both innings against Bangladesh and Ishant Sharma was impressive with his reverse swing on the 5th day. This leaves Bhuvaneshswar Kumar the vulnerable party; he might be the scapegoat when India prefers spin over pace.

But when conditions offer swing, Kumar becomes India’s most potent weapon. Mohammad Shami is still out due to injuries, but when he returns, he will be India’s 1st choice in the pace department.

It looks as though the Indian management will go with the ‘horses for courses’ approach, as they have done in the past. Depending on the conditions, India will decide on their bowling pair.
