T20 cricket is all about entertainment. There is not much regard for technique and temperament but for power and hitting ability. Over the years, there have been a lot of sixes hit in IPL and this season, we are in for many more.
Here are 5 batsmen who could top the chart of ‘most sixes’ this season.
#5 Chris Lynn
The belligerent Australian batsman is one of the most devastating batsmen in contemporary times.
He showed glimpses of his prowess in last IPL season playing for Kolkata Knight Riders but had to miss a big part of the season due to a shoulder injury.
Lynn is also the most feared batsman in the Big Bash League. With the kind of power he has got, it will be a surprise if he isn't among top 5 six-hitters in the league.
#4 AB de Villiers
Mr. 360 is always there in any batting record, be it most runs or most sixes. The former South African skipper was retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore this season.
AB, along with Virat Kohli form a dynamic duo for the men in red and never fail to entertain the M Chinnaswamy crowd.
When it comes to hitting big sixes, he has ‘been there, done that’ and looks least likely to fail trying again.
#3 Rohit Sharma
All batsmen hit sixes but Rohit Sharma has got a totally different charm about his big hits.
Unlike many batsmen who power or muscle the ball, Rohit caresses sixes. The Mumbai Indians skipper had shown us what he can do at his best especially after the 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka at Indore last year.
Being an opener, he will be getting maximum balls to face and hence if he gets going in most of the matches, he should be right up there on maximum sixes chart.
#2 Brendon McCullum
One of the most feared batters in T20 cricket at the moment, McCullum can tear you apart in the powerplay overs and he has shown that time and time again.
In run chases, if McCullum bats for 7-8 overs, the match is almost out of the opposing teams' hands.
Chennai Super Kings are likely to use their Right To Match card on Brendon McCullum and hence we might see him giving brisk starts for the men in yellow.
In any T20 league across the world, McCullum is always there in top 5 on ‘most sixes’ chart and there will be no surprise if he manages to do that in IPL 2018 as well.
#1 Virat Kohli
In 2016, Virat Kohli became the first batsman to score 4 hundreds in a single IPL season.
Also, in the same year, he won the Orange cap (973 runs) and hit most sixes as well (38).
He may not seem to be a big hitter like Brendon McCullum or Chris Gayle, but it does not always take power to hit sixes.
Sometimes, it is about timing and picking the right ball and shot selection, which he is a master at!
With all these, King Kohli has got everything and there is no reason why he cannot top the most sixes chart again!
