Mendis was unplayable during the 2008 series between Sri Lanka and India
The year 2008 will go down as the year when the Indian cricket team suffered their major roadblock as far as playing spin bowling was concerned. That roadblock came through Sri Lankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis who formed a web around the Indian batsmen right throughout the year.
Making his debut in Colombo, Mendis claimed four wickets in the first innings. His maiden scalp was Dravid who got bowled by a terrific delivery. The mystery spinner would snare the stalwart's scalp once again in the second innings and subsequently propel Sri Lanka to an innings triumph in the opening Test of the series.
