It is being argued that the treatment being meted out to the Australian skipper is partial

#1 Sachin Tendulkar

Whether Tendulkar intentionally tampered the ball or not remains a mystery

Before this point is explained, it is important to note that whether Sachin Tendulkar intentionally tampered the ball or not is still not known. The batsman was accused of scruffling the seam by rubbing his fingers on the ball in 2001 in South Africa and was penalised by match referee Mike Denness.

Tendulkar was fined 75 percent of his match fee and handed a ban for a Test. However, the Indian fans were outraged over ICC’s decision, which led to a public backlash. The Indian team threatened to pull out of the tour, while the BCCI boycotted the third Test.

The ICC was forced to reverse the decision taken on Tendulkar, and stated that he was “cleaning the ball without the umpire’s permission rather than ball tampering.”

Neither was the fine deducted nor did he have to serve a ban. Whether it was one of the many instances of ball-tampering or not remains a mystery.
