It has been more than a decade since the IPL was formed, but it continues to entertain fans around the world. Over the years, there have been a number of players who have represented the various franchises and played well, but have faded away with time.
Here are five current players whom you might not know were a part of the first IPL in 2008.
#5 Wriddhiman Saha
Wriddhiman Saha, the current Test wicketkeeper of India, was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the first edition of the Indian Premier League. The diminutive player played a full season for the franchise, getting 159 runs in 12 matches at an average of 31.80, and taking 8 catches and 2 stumpings.
His India debut came two years later in a Test against South Africa in 2010.
He is now part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and has played a total of 111 matches across seasons, scoring 1625 runs and picking 54 catches.
#4 Dhawal Kulkarni
Part of the Rajasthan Royals for this edition of the Indian Premier League, Dhawal Kulkarni is a medium-pacer who has been part of several franchises over the years. He is one of the few players who has played all editions of the IPL, right from 2008.
In the first year, he was part of the Mumbai Indians, playing 10 games and picking up as many wickets. Despite being lean, he made his presence felt with his accuracy.
His Indian team debut took some time to come, and happened only in 2014, in an ODI against England.
In a total of 77 matches till date, he has picked up 77 wickets.
#3 Pradeep Sangwan
When he burst onto the scene, Pradeep Sangwan was regarded as the next big thing in Indian Cricket, but could never progress past domestic cricket. The left arm pacer was part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup under Virat Kohli, and was expected to make an impact in the IPL.
The youngster was purchased in the star-studded Delhi Daredevils line-up and played 5 games, picking up 7 wickets. He was seen as a future star and made sporadic appearances from 2009-2013.
In 2016, he made his IPL comeback once again. This year he has played only one game for the Mumbai Indians.
#2 Ajinkya Rahane
He is currently the captain of the Rajasthan Royals and one of India's most dependable players in Test cricket. He started off small, and was part of the Mumbai Indians in the first edition of the Indian Premier League. He played just two games in the first season.
After that, he became part of the Rajasthan Royals and has so far made a total of 3217 runs at an average of 33.16. He has also scored a century and 25 fifties.
His Indian team debut came only in 2011, on India's tour to England where he impressed one and all with his strokeplay.
#1 Shikhar Dhawan
He became famous after scoring 187 on debut against Australia in 2013, but for those following the IPL closely, Shikhar Dhawan was already a household name. He has played all seasons of the IPL and made his debut way back in 2008. In that edition, the southpaw played 14 matches and scored 340 runs.
Till date, he has played 133 matches, scoring 3707 runs at an average of 32.80. He currently opens for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
