IPL teams have never shied away from spending huge amounts of money on mystery spinners. And thus, when Varun Chakravarthy's name came up at the auction it triggered a bidding war.

The Tamil Nadu spinner was sold for a mind-boggling amount of 8.4 crores, 42 times his base price, to Kings XI Punjab. Playing in the IPL was a dream come true for Varun. But his dream turned into a nightmare in his debut match.

Sunil Narine took full toll of the spinner clobbering him for 25 runs in his first over. Varun never really recovered from the horrendous first over and was dropped from the Kings' playing XI.

The Kings already have Ravichandran Ashwin, Murugan Ashwin and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the side and it remains to be seen if Varun gets another opportunity or his IPL dream was shortlived.
