Steve Waugh is one of the greatest Australian batsmen of all-time. He carried the Australian middle-order batting responsibilities for a large part of his test career and helped the team win by playing some invaluable game-winning knocks.
The Australian cricket team toured West Indies for a 4-match Test series in 1999. After two Test, the series was tied at one apiece and the visitors were looking to steal one game and take the lead in series. The Aussies skipper failed in the first Test but bounced back by smashing a century in the second Test.
In the third Test, he continued his form by scoring 199 and helped Australia rack up 490 in the first innings. His innings included 20 fours and a solitary six. Steve Waugh stitched a 281-run partnership with Ricky Ponting for the fifth wicket before the latter was dismissed. He was trapped lbw by Nehemiah Perry on 199 and missed out on a double-ton.
Despite Steve Waugh's heroics, the hosts managed to hold on to a one-wicket win in a nail-biting finish, thanks to Brian Lara and go up 2-1 in the series.
