Tim Southee could not replicate his World Cup success in the IPL

Southee excelled during the 2011 ICC Cricket World cup, picking up 18 wickets in 8 matches and guided New Zealand to the semi-finals where they lost to Sri Lanka. But the Kiwi pacer could not replicate his World Cup success in the IPL.

The Chennai Super Kings signed the New Zealander as a replacement for the injured Aussie pacer, Ben Hilfenhaus for INR 46 lakh in 2011. Southee played just five games in that season for the Super Kings, in which he took four wickets with his best figures being 1/30.

Southee bowled some toe-crushing yorkers in the all-important final over of the opening match of the season against the Kolkata Knight Riders and ensured Chennai’s win. Southee was eventually released by the CSK for the 2012 edition of the IPL.
