Even today, the record for most balls faced before getting out for a duck belongs to the Kiwi speedster. He was ultimately dismissed by Jacques Kallis in the innings. During Allott's presence on the crease, the Kiwis were able to add 32 vital runs to their total. New Zealand's Geoff Allott was out for a duck in a Test versus South Africa in Auckland in 1988/89. However, it was a record-breaking duck that lasted for 77 balls and 101 minutes.

His duck is considered as one of the most important ducks in Test cricket, as it was because of his effort that New Zealand finally managed to draw the game after South Africa enforced a follow-on.

Allott is followed on the list by James Anderson (55 balls) and Richard Ellison (52 balls).
