In reply, the hosts couldn’t really recover from a poor start, tumbling to 42-4 after the departure of Eoin Morgan in the fifth over. A fighting 90 from Joe Root, and cameos from Bopara and Buttler gave them a faint hope, but it turned out to be of little help at the end.
