5 Indian cricketers whose lives would make interesting biopics

India is a country known to be obsessed with its cricket and its cinema. These two sources of entertainment have never failed to attract the masses in the Indian subcontinent. The cricketers and their glamorous lives have made for amazing adapted screenplays.

In recent times, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Mohammed Azharuddin have not shied away from telling their story to the world. Biopics are a recent trend in the entertainment industry and have at the least secured decent openings at the Box office. Here are 5 Indian players whose stories if shown on screen, might be lucrative.

5. S Sreesanth

Sreesanth at the 2011 World CupA member of two world cup winning sides, Sreesanth was known mainly not only for his reverse swings but also his wicket celebrations. The pacer's aggressive style of appealing and celebrating did not go well with either batsmen or umpires.

His tiffs with various players include Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden, Andre Nel, Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen to name a few.

His on-field behaviour had even cost him a percentage of his match fees on various occasions. Sreesanth was also supposedly slapped by Harbhajan Singh during an IPL match, which led to uncontrollable sobs from the pacer before the post match ceremony. However, the most controversial incident came when he was banned for life for a spot-fixing case along with Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, his teammates at the Rajasthan Royals.

After the infamous incident, Sreesanth was seen trying his hand at a dance show and also acting in Hindi and Malayalam cinema. Sreesanth now looks for a career in politics as well, as he prepares to contest from Thiruvananthpuram for the upcoming Kerala Assembly Elections.

4. Mithali Raj

From the Padma Shri to Vogue's Sportsperson of the year, Mithali Raj has won it all. Raj holds the record for the most runs scored in ODIs by a female cricketer. At the tender age of just 14, she was named as one of the probables to be part of the Indian team participating in the 1997 Women's Cricket World Cup to be held in India.

Mithali Raj, although she has not won a world cup, came close in the finals in 2005 and 2017 when on both occasions, she was the captain of the team.

Raj was also the first player, male or female, to score 7 consecutive 50s in One-day Internationals. BBC also mentioned Mithali Raj in their 100 Women List of 2017. As of now, a renowned production house has bought the rights to make a feature film on her life.

3. Navjot Singh Sidhu

Behind the comedy show judge and the witty commentator lies a greater story of which not many are aware of. Sidhu, who in his prime was nicknamed " Sixer Sidhu," has had his own share of controversies.

He was known for his aggressive batting and was one of the most entertaining batsmen to watch in the 1980s and 1990s. Sidhu reportedly walked off India's tour of England in 1996 because of differences with his skipper Mohammed Azharuddin.

He was later charged with a 10 Test match ban only to return for the West Indies tour later that year wherein he scored his famous 201 in 11 hours. After retirement, he became a serious politician for the Bhartiya Janata Party by winning a seat in the Lok Sabha in the 2004 election.

The shock came when Sidhu was convicted for homicide of a certain Gurnam Singh and had to give up his position. After being found guilty, Sidhu was imprisoned. He eventually bounced back by winning his MLA seat against his bitter rival Om Prakash Soni in 2009. He also has been sacked by the ESPN-Star network for swearing on National Television because of which he had to switch to the TEN network. He is now an active member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly.

2. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi

Born with a silver spoon, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi or 'Tiger' Pataudi has been described as among the greatest Indian captains. With titles like the Nawab of Pataudi and the Nawab of Bhopal, Pataudi was educated at top institutions like Welham's and Balliol College, Oxford. He was the first Indian to captain the Oxford team in County Cricket.

Calamity struck when Pataudi was blinded in one eye after a car accident in 1961, but he continued to play cricket. Only six months after his accident, Pataudi made his test debut against England. He scored 103 in the final test leading to India's first Test series win against England. Under his captaincy, India also won its first test match on away soil against New Zealand. Also, his relationship and marriage to film actress Sharmila Tagore made major headlines back in the day.

Pataudi passed away in 2011, but his name still lives on.

1.Yuvraj Singh

The left-handed batsman is undoubtedly among the greatest superstars of the game. Born in Chandigarh to a cricketer father, he displayed his sporting genes early on by excelling at tennis and skating.

After his parents separated, he took up cricket and never looked back. Singh was the player of the tournament at the 2000 Under-19 World Cup won by India.

He followed it up by playing in all the three formats with senior team. His 69 off 63 balls in Lord's in the 2002 NatWest series final remains one of his most memorable knocks. His famous six sixes of the Stuart Broad over established him in the history books. Yuvraj was the vice-captain of the team that won the first ever T20 world cup.

He even grabbed the headlines for a rumoured relationship with Deepika Padukone, who was an upcoming actress at that time. Yuvraj also played a major role in India's famous 2011 World Cup win, bagging the Player of the Tournament. However, he faced a serious health hazard when he was diagnosed with a cancerous tumour in his left lung, soon after which he underwent chemotherapy in Boston.

Yuvraj is also involved in charity and helping cancer patients with his foundation. He is also deemed as one of the most expensive players to have ever played in the IPL. Happily married now, Yuvraj continues to fight for his place in the Indian Team like a champion.
