The revolving door for Kings XI Punjab continued next season too as they appointed Glenn Maxwell as the captain for the 2017 season.

Maxwell had no prior experience of leading sides, but Punjab gave him the responsibility and he started off in the right spirit. However, the results did not arrive and towards the end of the season, there were flared tempers in the dressing room as Virender Sehwag, the mentor of Punjab, lashed out at the captain for not being responsible at all.
Leading Punjab for 14 matches, Maxwell won only seven and conceded seven games for the side. Punjab could not qualify for the playoffs.
