IPL has seen as many as 52 centuries over the years. But there have been a few destructive innings where a batsman has scored more than 100 runs through boundaries only.
It has happened eight times. Universe Boss Chris Gayle has done it three times while AB De Villiers has done it twice and three players (Sanath Jayasuriya, Brendon McCullum, Rishabh Pant) have done it once each.
The first time Gayle did it was when he scored 128* off 62 balls vs Delhi Daredevils in 2012. He hit 13 sixes and seven fours, hence scoring 102 off those 128 runs in boundaries.
He achieved this astonishing feat for the second time in 2013 when he blasted 175* off 66 balls vs Pune Warriors.
In that he innings, he blasted 17 sixes and hit 13 fours and scored 154 of 175 runs in boundaries.
Gayle managed to repeat the feat again in 2015 against Kings XI Punjab when he scored 117 runs off 57 balls. He sent the ball over the ropes 12 times and hit seven fours, hence scoring exactly 100 runs in boundaries.
