Ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah was the only shining light for Team India in an otherwise disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Despite taking a 1-0 lead with a 295-run victory in Perth, India went down 1-3 in the five-match series. As a result, they also squandered their opportunity of setting a World Test Championship final date with South Africa.

Bumrah carried the bowling front single-handedly on his shoulders. Mohammed Siraj was far from his best, while the visitors had to use three seamers for the third-pacer's role. None of them looked good enough to back the World No.1 Test bowler.

Bumrah had a disappointing end to the series as he couldn't bowl in the final innings in Sydney due to a back spasm. However, he would be might pleased with his efforts. The right-arm pacer returned with 32 scalps in nine innings at an astronomical average of 13.06 and deservedly won the Player of the Series award.

Jasprit Bumrah also broke a plethora of records throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. We take a look at five such records created by the speedster.

#1 Jasprit Bumrah now has the most wickets by an Indian bowler in an overseas Test series

The Ahmedabad-born pacer's 32 scalps in the series are the most wickets picked up by an Indian bowler in an overseas Test series. Bumrah eclipsed former left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi, who scalped 31 wickets in the five-match Test series against Australia in 1977-78.

BS Chandrasekhar occupies the third spot for an Indian bowler with the most Test wickets in an overseas series. He scalped 28 wickets in the aforementioned 1977-78 tour against Australia.

#2 Fastest Indian pacer to 200 Test wickets

Jasprit Bumrah picked up his 200 scalp in red-ball cricket during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In the process, he became the fastest Indian pacer to take 200 Test wickets, achieving the feat in 44 Tests.

He also became the second-fastest Indian bowler to reach the milestone, only behind former off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer grabbed his 200 Test scalp in 37 Tests.

#3 Only bowler with a minimum of 200 Test wickets and an average less than 20

Team India speedster Jasprit Bumrah is the only bowler in the history of Test cricket to have picked up 200 wickets at an average of below 20. Bumrah currently has 205 Test scalps to his name at an average of 19.40.

Legendary West Indian pacer Malcolm Marshall occupies the second spot in the chart with an average of 20.94. Marshall's West Indian teammates Joel Garner (20.97) and Curty Ambrose (20.97) find themselves in the third and fourth spots, while England's Fred Trueman completes the top five with an average of 21.57.

Among current cricketers, only Kagiso Rabada (321 at 21.88) and Pat Cummins (286 at 22.86) are close to Bumrah.

#4 Most wickets in SENA Tests for India

Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 205 wickets so far in 45 Tests since his debut in 2018 at Cape Town. Out of those 205 Test wickets, 153 have come in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).

Bumrah's 205 wickets are the most by an Indian bowler in the red-ball format of the game. Bumrah went past former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble, who has 141 wickets in SENA countries.

Fast bowlers Ishant Sharma (130) and Mohammed Shami (123) occupy the third and fourth places, respectively, in the list.

#5 Most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in SENA countries

Jasprit Bumrah now has the most five-wicket hauls among Indian bowlers in SENA cricketers with nine. The ace speedster has four five-wicket hauls to his name in Australia, while Bumrah has two in England and three in South Africa.

Former World Cup winner Kapil Dev is second on the charts with seven five-wicket hauls in SENA countries. The ace all-rounder has picked up five on Australia soil, while the remaining two five-wicket hauls came in England.
