Here is a list of 5 matches, which a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan can never forget:
#5 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Gujarat Lions, 2016 (RCB won by 144 runs)
If you ask any bowler about who is the most difficult pair of batsmen to bowl to, they will end up saying "AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli".
When de Villiers or Kohli are in fine form, the result is ravaging. This was the situation when both turned the heat up on Gujarat Lions at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in 2016. Both scored centuries and RCB piled up 248 runs in their quota of 20 overs, which eventually led to a massive 144-run victory for the home team.
During the match, Kohli reached his third century of IPL season and ABD notched up his second-highest T20 score.
#4 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 2014 (KKR won by 2 runs)
Due to the elections in India, the 11th match of the season in 2015 between KKR and RCB was held in UAE.
Batting first on a flat track, KKR were restricted to 150 in 20 overs. The RCB openers were well on course and the match was well in the Bangalore's grasp. The M. Chinnaswamy side required 9 off the last over. Vinay Kumar took the responsibility to bowl the last over and brings the equation to 6 of 3 balls. AB was on strike during the fourth ball of the over and smashed the delivery towards the mid-on region. Everybody expected the ball to clear the ropes, but Lynn ran in and then had to dive backwards to comple a superb catch.
After Mr.360 fell, his compatriot Albie Morkel could only manage to score 3 runs from the remaining deliveries as IPL witnessed yet another nail-biter.
#3 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Delhi Daredevils,2013 (RCB won by 4 runs in Super Over)
One of the breathtaking matches in the history of RCB where both sides fought hard. Till the 13th over of RCB's chase, everything looked fine and the match was in RCB's basket. Morne Morkel's throw to run-out AB de Villiers was the turning point of the match. Delhi Daredevils reduced RCB to 140/7 from a comfortable stage of 129/3. However, the duo of Ravi Rampaul and Vinay Kumar helped RCB to tie the match.
In the Super Over, Umesh Yadav bowling effectively controlled the home team for 15 runs. David Warner holed out at point region in the first ball, but Irfan reduced the equation to 6 from 2. Ravi Rampaul had the last laugh, as he cleaned-up Ben Rohrer in the final ball of the Super Over.
#2 Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Rajasthan Royals, 2015(Match abandoned due to rain)
This was the match where RCB's batting proved that even if their top order fails, the middle order is strong enough to win matches on their own. But at the end, Rain Gods had other ideas to play spoilsport.
The openers were dismissed early in the game after putting to bat first. The fans were worried until AB de Villiers steadied the ship with his knock of 57(45). But, the star of the day was Sarfaraz Khan. IPL’s youngest cricketer, Sarfaraz Khan showed glimpses of his potential against RR when RCB, who had their backs against the walls, staged a good comeback. The youngster scored 45 runs at an astounding strike rate of 214.29 and showed everybody exactly why he was considered one of the brightest talents in Indian cricket at the time.
Skipper Virat Kohli couldn’t stop himself from bowing down and acknowledging his entertaining knock. Sarfaraz Khan made it off the field with a broad smile on his face, getting the back pats and friendly knocks on his helmets from his fellow teammates.
#1) Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 2015(RCB won by 6 wickets)
It was one of the most sensational finishes ever to a cricket match. Earlier, Royal Challengers Bangalore were given 81 runs to chase in 6 overs, in a rain-curtailed affair. Gayle gave RCB a spectacular start by scoring 35 runs from 9 balls before finding a fielder at deep mid-wicket region. The RCB captain, Virat Kohli, through his masterpiece, brought down the equation to four runs from 2 balls.
In the penultimate ball, Virat Kohli slammed a six which David Warner caught near the boundary ropes. The Sunrisers' skipper celebrated, but as he stepped back, his foot landed on the boundary rope. This act by Warner drew comparisons with the Bollywood movie, Lagaan.
Indeed, it will be in the memory of every RCB fan.
