Southee’s fightback
When your batsmen have failed you and managed a paltry 142 on a seemingly batting-friendly wicket, the onus is on your bowlers to overperform to get the win. Tim Southee did precisely that, and with a little bit of help, could have got Mumbai an unlikely win.
If Barinder Sran’s bowling was mesmerising in the first innings, Tim Southee’s was out of this world! The Kiwi conceded just 24 runs in his quota of 4 overs, an economy of just 6 per over - something unheard of in T20s.
He even took 3 wickets, the first of which was a beautiful delivery to Dhawan to give Mumbai hope. Whenever he got the ball, he got a wicket and Moises Henriques and Eoin Morgan were also taken to the cleaners by Southee. A memorable spell indeed.
