4.Kepler Wessels was the coach of the Chennai Super Kings in the 2008 season
South African cricket may have come up by leaps and bounds since the time they returned to international cricket in 1992.
But if there is one man they need to thank who helped them lead the way for their side, it would be Kepler Wessels, who at the age of 34 came out and captained the Protean side in the 1992 World Cup.
Post his playing career, Wessels switched to coaching and was part of the county circuit, where he was in charge of Northamptonshire. In 2008, he was roped in by the Chennai Super Kings as their head coach for the 1st season of the League.
Consisting of a squad which had some heavyweight names that were capable of taking the team all the way to the title, the team put forth a superb show but faltered at the final hurdle where the Rajasthan Royals proved to be a tad better than them.
