In a few months, Parthiv has gone from back-up to being the fourth choice keeper in Tests

If there is one player who will be wondering what the thought process behind the selection is, it will be Parthiv Patel. After an eight-year gap, Parthiv Patel was recalled to the Test side for the home series against England after an injury to Wriddhiman Saha. Although he scored two fifties and a 42 in his four innings, once Saha was fit, he didn't get another chance.

He also played two Tests against South Africa earlier this year when Saha was injured. Although his form against the Proteas wasn't as good as it was England, he would have thought that he is the second choice keeper in Tests.

But with Saha injured again and out of the first three Tests, Parthiv Patel was not picked while Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant were picked ahead of him. And in the space of a few months, the 33-year-old has gone from India's back-up Test keeper to being the fourth choice through no fault of his own.

And that is why he will certainly consider himself unlucky to not have made the cut for the first three Tests against England.
