The Indian team for the T20I series has been announced in the middle of a busy IPL season. While the majority of the team is what many would have expected, there are some players who would be considering themselves unlucky to have missed out on a spot in the T20I team.
Here are five players who could have been included in the side:
#5 Krunal Pandya
The talented all-rounder continues to be left out of the Indian side, despite performing well in the IPL for two years now. He has been a vital cog in the Mumbai Indians line-up and despite the fact that the side have not been performing well this year, he has contributed with both bat and ball in an attempt to keep them afloat.
This year, he has scored 181 runs in 10 games and picked up nine wickets, apart from being a livewire on the field.
#4 Shreyas Iyer
The 23-year-old right-hander was set to replace Virat Kohli in the Test team against Afghanistan, but he finds no mention in the T20I squad, in spite of being in great touch in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Made captain of the Delhi Daredevils midway through the side replacing Gautam Gambhir, he has been in insane touch ever since.
He has scored 351 runs in 10 games at an average of 50.14 with the high score of an unbeaten 93 that he scored against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
#3 Rishabh Pant
The left-handed swashbuckling wicket-keeper batsman has been setting the grounds on fire with his scorching batting even though his side has not been able to perform well as a unit. In 10 games this season, he has scored 393 runs and has stumped everyone with his quirky batting style.
He is striking the ball at a rate of 173.12 and an average of 39.30. His India caps have been limited to only four internationals with the side preferring MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik in the squad.
#2 Suryakumar Yadav
Back to his hometown for the IPL this year, Suryakumar Yadav has been the find of the Mumbai Indians in a difficult campaign. The elegant right-hander has been a rock for the side at the top of the order and has been very effective in the powerplays, piercing the gaps at will and running hard between the wickets.
In 10 games, he has scored 399 runs at an average of 39.90 and a strike-rate of 132.11.
#1 Ambati Rayudu
The 32-year-old right-hander has been a revelation for the Chennai Super Kings this year. Part of the Mumbai Indians from 2010 to 2017, he was acquired by the Men in Yellow, and performed wonderfully with the bat at the top of the order.
His consistency has been one of the focal points for CSK's success this year and in spite of being pushed down the order, he has been contributing with the bat. He's part of the ODI series, but finds no mention in the T20I side.
