5 reasons why Rohit Sharma, not Virat Kohli, should be India's T20I skipper

Bangladesh v India - ICC Champions Trophy Semi Final
Should Kohli handover the reins to Sharma?

#4 Responsibility breeds consistency

Australia v India - Game 1
Sharma needs more reliability in his game

The right-handed batsman definitely is amongst the best openers in world cricket today. When he gets going, he can create havoc in the game and take the winds out of the sails of the opposition bowling attack.

However, one major criticism that Sharma faces in terms of his batting is that he is not consistent enough at the top of the order. He fails to deliver performances without letting the occasional unpredictability seep into his game. This makes him undependable from time to time.

More often than not, the 30-year-old returns to the pavilion due to soft dismissals in international cricket. He plays the wrong shot, he pokes at the delivery he should’ve left alone, or he falls to the occasional run-out from time to time.

Once the captaincy of the side is entrusted to him, the frequency of these errors will automatically diminish. The Mumbaikar will bat with more responsibility and thus, will become more reliable in terms of his individual performances. This will not only help him grow as a batsman, but will be a positive sign for the Indian unit as a whole.
