Ace Team India speedster Jasprit Bumrah bowling in rhythm is like poetry in motion. He continued to enthrall fans with another remarkable spell on Day 4 of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

After picking up four wickets in the first wickets, Bumrah scalped another four in the second essay to carry the team on his shoulders in the series yet again. He dismissed Sam Konstas to open his account in the second innings, before getting the better of Travis Head to complete his 200 Test wickets. The right-arm pacer scalped two more to keep India in the contest as Rohit Sharma and company eye their third consecutive Border-Gavaskar Trophy win on Australian soil.

Bumrah broke a plethora of records with his four-wicket spell on the penultimate day of the Melbourne Test. On that note, let's look at five records made by Jasprit Bumrah during the breathtaking spell in 2nd innings of BGT 2024-25 4th Test.


#1 Only bowler with a minimum of 200 Test wickets and an average less than 20

Team India speedster Jasprit Bumrah is the only bowler in the history of Test cricket to have picked up 200 wickets at an average of below 20. Bumrah currently has 201 Test scalps to his name at an average of 19.41.

West Indian legend Malcolm Marshall is second on the list with an average of 20.94. He is followed by his teammates Joel Garner (20.97) and Curtly Ambrose (20.99). England's Fred Trueman completed the top five with an average of 21.57.

Only Kagiso Rabada (321 Test wickets at 21.88) and Pat Cummins (286 at 22.68) are close to Bumrah among active cricketers.


#2 Jasprit Bumrah is the fastest Indian to 200 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled

The 31-year-old fast bowler picked up his 200 Test wicket on Day 4 of the Melbourne Test. In the process, he became the fastest Indian bowler to scalp 200 Test wickets in terms of balls bowled.

Bumrah achieved the milestone of 8484th legal delivery in Test cricket. His longtime bowling Mohammed Shami is second on the chart, reaching the landmark of 9896 deliveries.

Bumrah is also the fourth-fastest overall pacer to take 200 wickets. Waqar Younis (7725 balls), Dale Steyn (7848 balls), and Kagiso Rabada (8154 balls) are only ahead of him in the tally.


#3 Most wickets by an Indian pacer in a series in Australia

The right-arm pacer also now holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian fast bowler in a series down under. Bumrah has so far picked up 29 wickets in the series with one Test in Sydney still to go.

He went past legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev who took 25 wickets during the 1992 tour of Australia. Bumrah achieved the feat after dismissing Sam Konstas with a reaper in the second innings.


#4 Most wickets in SENA Tests for India

Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 202 wickets so far in 44 red-ball games since his debut in 2018 against South Africa. Out of those 202 Test wickets, 150 have come in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).

It is the most by an Indian bowler in the longest format of the game. Bumrah leapfrogged former Indian skipper Anil Kumble, who scalped 141 wickets in SENA countries. Ishant Sharma (130) and Mohammed Shami (123) occupy the next two spots in the list.


#5 Most wickets by an Indian bowler at the MCG

Jasprit Bumrah has picked up 23 wickets so far at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). He has played only three games at the venue and boasts the best figures of 6/33. The speedster now has the most wickets at the MCG by an Indian bowler in red-ball cricket.

He eclipsed legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble who has 19 wickets to his name at the iconic venue. Ravichandran Ashwin and Kapil Dev have 14 wickets each at the venue, while Umesh Yadav has 13 scalps under his belt in Melbourne.
