After demolishing South Africa in ODI series, team India started the T20 series on a high note by winning the first T20 match. Most of the fans were hopeful that India would win the second T20 to seal the series but all their hopes were crushed by Heinrich Klaasen who played a match-winning knock of 69 runs in just 30 balls. Having created history by winning the ODI series, team India will be looking to seal the T20 series tomorrow. In the 2nd T20 match, India committed many mistakes and if they want to win the series, they need to overcome those mistakes. Let's analyze what mistakes were made and how can they improve.
#1 Rohit Sharma needs to provide a good start
When it comes to hitting the bowlers around the ground, Rohit Sharma comes to mind. After all, he is called 'Hitman' for a reason. Although, after seeing the ODI series and 2 T20 matches, it would look like Shikhar Dhawan is the one who is performing like a hitman.
In the last match Rohit got out on the first ball he faced and that made things difficult for the rest of the players. Although India posted a good total on the board with the help of Dhoni's innings they could have crossed the 200-mark if Rohit would have played carefully. Rohit Sharma is the one who can set the motion of the whole match as he had done in the 1st T20. He did not score a half-century or century in the first T20 but he provided an explosive start to the team which gave confidence to the whole team and this was the reason India managed to get past the 200-mark. So let's hope that he will provide a fiery start to team India and will help the team secure a win.
#2 Dhawan needs to take some responsibility
In the 2015 World Cup semi-final, India were facing Australia and needed to chase down 328 runs. It was a huge target to chase down but India managed to get a good start by adding 76 runs for the opening wicket. Everything was looking great from India's perspective and Dhawan was playing a beautiful game of cricket with confidence but he gifted his wicket to the opposition by playing a loose shot when there was no need to play a shot like that. That was the moment that started the downfall of India in that match and India lost by a massive 95 runs.
Dhawan repeated the same incident in the previous T20 match. He was playing well, getting boundaries in each over and the ball was hitting his bat well but despite already getting a boundary on the previous ball he decided to go big again when there was no need and gifted his wicket again. And just like that semi-final, India lost momentum. He needs to be more responsible and especially on big occasions like this.
#3 Virat Kohli needs to perform
A true cricket fan will never expect more from Virat Kohli after what he has achieved during this tour. We cannot blame him for his early departure in the previous match, after all, no player is good enough to perform in every single match. After leveling the series, South Africa will be looking to clinch the series away from India but this might be the perfect opportunity for Kohli to shine again and crush the hopes of South Africa. Kohli always performs better under pressure and the deciding T20 will deliver a lot of pressure on players. Kohli is not performing well in this T20 series but team India did just fine without his contribution. But if India are going to secure this series, Kohli will have to step up and play like the champion he is this time.
#4 Bowling attack needs to be changed
In the last few months, Chahal has proved himself to be one of the better bowlers in the limited overs format but he has cost team India two matches so far. India were looking comfortable in the 4th ODI but Chahal got the wicket of Miller on a no-ball which later proved to be very costly. In the previous match, nothing was going right for the young spinner which was the main reason behind the defeat of India. Chahal was smashed (one wicket for 103 runs in 8 overs at economy 12.87) in the first two match. Klaasen will be quite happy to see him in the playing XI. Right now, Chahal's confidence has been compromised and Kohli needs to drop him and make room for Kuldeep Yadav.
Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat is also getting special treatment from South Africa. He has conceded 75 runs picking up only 2 wickets in 8 overs. Hopefully, Bumrah will be back in the starting line-up replacing Unadkat.
