Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket with immediate effect. The all-rounder dropped the bombshell after the third Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 series between Australia and India.
The second Test of the series in Adelaide proved to be Ashwin's last match for India. In all, he represented the nation 287 times across all three formats of international cricket, scoring 4,394 runs and picking up 765 wickets.
Apart from his on-field brilliance, Ravichandran Ashwin is also popular for his social media skills. He often engages in light-hearted banter; here's a collection of five such social media posts.
#1 Ravichandran Ashwin's banter with prime minister's parody account
In August 2023, a parody account of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left a comment on a post from Ashwin. While cricketers generally avoid parody accounts, Ashwin decided to reply, writing:
"Sir how are you? I am so glad you replied to my tweet. I am honoured."
Ashwin laughed it off when a user pointed out to him that many fans did not understand sarcasm.
#2 When Cheteshwar Pujara tried to take Ashwin's job
During the previous edition of Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023, Cheteshwar Pujara rolled his arm over for India during the final Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Posting a screenshot of the same, Ashwin wrote on X:
"Main kya karu? Job chod du?"
Pujara then quoted the post from Ashwin and hilariously claimed that it was his way of thanking him after the off-spinner batted at number three during the previous Test in Nagpur.
#3 Ravichandran Ashwin takes a dig at L Sivaramakrishnan while replying to Amit Shah's parody account
Earlier this year in March, Ashwin provided a hilarious reply to politician Amit Shah's parody account. The parody profile asked Ashwin to join him for the rallies, to which the former Indian cricketer responded:
"Ok sir, after deciding when and where." (Ashwin attached a picture of Sivaramakrishnan with the text 'Call me please')
This was Ashwin's cheeky way of getting back at former Indian player L Sivaramakrishnan, who once said that Ashwin would ignore his calls and not reply to him.
#4 Ashwin's interaction with a parody account of Janhvi Kapoor
Just a few days after replying to Amit Shah's parody account, Ravichandran Ashwin was involved in cheeky banter with Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor's parody profile. The user portraying Jahnvi thanked Ashwin for arranging tickets for the Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match in IPL 2024.
"The least I can do for you. Btw can you send me those G stand tickets in return for what I have done for you?" Ashwin hilariously replied.
Amit Shah's parody profile then claimed that he was in line for the tickets as well, to which Ashwin responded:
"Sir, have you not joined the PM’s rally in Kerala? Look forward to meeting u soon."
#5 Ashwin's banter with 'football manager' Kuldeep Yadav
During a break in the India vs England Test series earlier this year, Kuldeep Yadav posted a tweet, sharing his views on a football game between Liverpool and Manchester City. Ravichandran Ashwin was quick to reply to Yadav, writing:
"Dey football manager (with three laughing emojis)."
Kuldeep told Ashwin that he would love to come on his YouTube channel for a discussion. Ashwin ended the conversation by saying he is trying to understand football just for that episode.
