The Global League T20 Canada got underway on Thursday, July 25, when the Toronto Nationals beat the Vancouver Knights by eight wickets at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario. The tournament will continue with its group phase until Tuesday, August 6, after which it will move on to the playoffs stage. All teams have the opportunity to prove themselves and qualify for that phase.

A lot of top players from across the world are participating in this league, and it will be interesting to see how they fare alongside the best of the talent from the host country. The standard of cricket is bound to be very high.

In this listicle, we take a look at the top five bowlers to watch out for in this tournament:

#1 Andrew Tye (Brampton Wolves)

Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye has proved himself to be a valuable asset in T20 leagues across the world, and the same will be expected of him in this tournament in Canada as well.

Tye is known to hit the deck hard and get it to move around when it is new while coming back to bowl searing yorkers with pace and make the best of the batters across the world wince in pain and discomfort.

Tye's experience in this format of the game will come in handy for him as the Brampton Wolves will task him with the responsibility of delivering in key situations when the challenges seem daunting.

#2 Mohammad Amir (Vancouver Knights)

Mohammad Amir, who is one of the premier fast bowlers in the world at the moment, will be the key draw in this tournament when he runs in to bowl with the new cherry for the Vancouver Knights.

The Pakistani is one of the finest adherents of the art of swing bowling, and one expects him to display his wares in broad daylight while playing in this tournament in North America.

The left-arm seamer can get the ball to move both away and back in to right-handers and left-handers alike, and that is what makes him such a dangerous bowler to face in a competitive scenario.

#3 Naveen-ul-Haq (Montreal Tigers)

Naveen-ul-Haq, a fine seamer with the ability to bowl in the right areas towards the death end of a T20 innings, will turn out for the Montreal Tigers in the Global T20 Canada tournament and hope to impress the owners and spectators.

The Afghan is a widely sought-after commodity in T20 franchise leagues across the world, and it will be interesting to see how he translates the promise he has shown into potential.

He comes into this tournament on the back of a poor run in the MLC (where he played for the Faf du Plessis-led Texas Super Kings), although he was quite effective in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup prior to that.

#4 Shoriful Islam (Bangla Tigers Mississauga)

Bangladesh's Shoriful Islam coincidentally (or not, we are not sure) finds himself in a side called Banga Tigers Mississauga in this tournament. He will, quite naturally, have a lot to live up to.

The left-arm seamer can get the ball to swing around when it is new, and it is this ability of his that will draw in crowds whenever he plays. He is also a good proponent of the slower delivery that can outfox the best in the business.

Shoriful has played in 36 ODIs and 41 T20Is for Bangladesh so far, which means that he has enough experience to hold himself even whenever he is put under undue stress by batters keen on taking him on.

#5 Sunil Narine (Surrey Jaguars)

Sunil Narine, who won the IPL earlier this year with the Kolkata Knight Riders, finds himself as the captain of the Surrey Jaguars in the Global T20 League Canada.

What will worry the supporters of the Jaguars is that the Trinidadian comes into this tournament on the back of a rather poor run of form with the LA Knight Riders in Major League Cricket 2024.

However, given the sort of experience that he has, one will expect Narine to recover quickly and deliver with both the bat and the ball in hand for his franchise and enthrall the crowds gathered in the stadiums.
