Young all-rounder Nitish Reddy conquered the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Saturday, December 28 with a breathtaking century. He partnered with Washington Sundar to pull out Team India from choppy waters in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The visiting side were in deep trouble at 221/7 when Reddy joined hands with Sundar. They added 127 runs for the eighth wicket to stretch India's total and reduce the deficit with Australia's first innings total of 474.

However, two quick wickets left Nitish stranded at 99 on the non-striker's end with three balls to go and Mohammed Siraj on strike against Pat Cummins. The Indian pacer did enough to negate the three balls to give Nitish a fair opportunity to reach the three-figure mark. He completed the milestone in the next over.

Scoring a hundred in Australia is a big occasion for any batter across the globe. Apart from Nitish Reddy, there have been a few other Indian batters who have achieved the landmark.

On that note, we look at the five youngest Indians to score a Test hundred in Australia.


#5 KL Rahul - 22 years and 263 days

Wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul made his debut in red-ball cricket during India's tour of Australia in 2014-15. The right-hander had an ordinary outing in the first match in Melbourne, aggregating only four runs, but announced himself in Sydney with an excellent hundred.

Opening the batting, Rahul amassed 110 runs off 262 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and one six. His knock helped India get a good start in reply to Australia's 572/7 declared in the first innings.

Rahul's hundred came when he was 22 years and 263 days old, which makes him the fifth youngster Indian to score a century in Australia.


#4 Dattu Phadkar - 22 years and 042 days

Former Indian cricketer Dattu Phadkar was one of the finest batters during the 1940-1950 period. The right-handed batter showcased his abilities only in the third Test of his career, smashing a brilliant hundred at the Adelaide Oval.

He played a gritty knock of 123 off 284 deliveries, including 15 boundaries. He helped stretch India's total to 381 in reply to Australia's 674 in the first innings.

Phadkar achieved the feat at the age of 22 years and 42 days, which makes him the fourth-youngest Indian batter to score a hundred on Australian soil.


#3 Nitish Reddy - 21 years and 214 days

The 21-year-old all-rounder registered his name into the annals of Indian cricket with a match-saving hundred at the iconic MCG.

Playing in his maiden Test series, Nitish Reddy looked fluent from the first innings, proving that he belongs to this level. After a couple of 40s, the right-hander converted the start to score a fluent hundred in Melbourne. He slammed 10 boundaries and a six for his unbeaten 105 off 176 deliveries.

Nitish registered his first hundred Down Under at the age of 21 years and 214 days, which makes him the third-youngest Indian to achieve the feat in Australia.

#2 Rishabh Pant - 21 years and 91 days

Although Rishabh Pant is being berated for getting out to an outrageous scoop, he is the second-youngest Indian to score a hundred in Australia. It was his second ton after scoring a century at the Oval against England.

Pant slammed an unbeaten 159 off 189 deliveries in Sydney, including 15 boundaries and a six. Batting first, India declared their innings at 622/7, riding on a big knock from the left-hander.

Although the match ended in a draw, Pant registered himself as one of the best Indian wicketkeeper-batters to play in Test cricket.


#1 Sachin Tendulkar - 18 years and 253 days

The legendary Indian batter is the youngest Indian to score a Test hundred in Australia. Sachin Tendulkar smashed two centuries in Sydney and Perth in a space of 30 days.

During the 1992 tour of Australia, Tendulkar scored an unbeaten 148 off 213 deliveries, including 14 boundaries, in Sydney. The hundred came at the age of 18 years and 253 days, which makes the Little Master the youngest Indian batter ever to score a hundred on Australian soil.

A few days later, Tendulkar slammed another hundred at the WACA. The right-hander amassed 114 off 161 deliveries, including 16 boundaries. The century came when the maestro was 18 years and 283 days old. However, India suffered a massive defeat in that match.
