The Mumbai right-hander may have had to put for a long time to play Test cricket for India, but once he got his chance, he showed to all that he belonged to the international level.

A year after his debut, Rahane bailed India out of trouble in windy Wellington, when he made 118, his first Test hundred, thereby providing them with the lead they desperately needed in the Test match.

Since that knock, Rahane has become India's 'overseas specialist', bailing the side out of many a tough situation away from home.

Almost six months later, with Rohit Sharma out injured, he was promoted to open the innings against England at Edgbaston and his response was a strokeful century, which helped the visitors chase down a mediocre total with ease.
